Thinking About Outsourcing Your Medical Billing? Here Are Some Good Reasons You Should.

I've heard all the reasons why a provider doesn't want to use an outside billing company: it's too expensive, they lose control over it, the process isn't transparent or they have their own billing staff already. All of these are good excuses, but if you break down the actual cost, you may want to rethink your decision. There are some definite bonuses to using a medical billing company; here are some examples:
The staff are trained specialists. Medical billing companies hire professionals with experience and medical billing is all they do! Because they are not burdened by additional work such as managing the front desk or completing medical assistant tasks, they are able to focus solely on getting your claims submitted and paid. This will decrease the amount of data entry errors and ensure the work is completed in a timely manner.
It allows more time for you to spend on patient care. If you as a provider are brave enough to do your own billing, outsourcing will increase the amount of time you have available to do what you're passionate about- treat patients. Small practices or individual providers may think they're saving money by doing it themselves, but unless you have the time to stay up to date on insurance and billing policy changes and follow up on denials, you are likely losing money. Isn't it better to spend a little to ensure all of your claims are paid instead of hoping for the best?
It increases your revenue. Again, the staff at these companies are specialists. They know the nuances to billing such as which insurances want a 95 modifier and which want a GT for telehealth. This specific knowledge means more claims go out clean on the first submission, denials are reduced and the payment is deposited into your account faster.
Outsourcing can be a scary thought, but if your revenue is not where it should be, or if you're spending too much time calling insurances, it may be time.
